Visual Design

In the design phase, we go through the process of solving the problems we learned about the Discover phase—and deliver the solution.

Visual Design Comps

The comparables, or comps, are prototypes that show the look and feel of the interface, including color, layout, and graphics. For each project, the visual designer creates three sets of comps, each using a different style but still following organization’s brand guidelines.

Comps are reviewed with the client and serve as a means by which the client can articulate their preferences around the look and feel. The final look and feel can be one of the comps as is, a modified version of one of the comps, a combination of the different comps, or, rarely, a new set of comps.

Graphical Assests

The graphical assets are the graphic files for the graphical elements the developer will need to implement the look and feel consistently across the Web site or product. Many page elements, for example, buttons, are actually graphic files the visual designer provides.

Visual Design Style Guide

This is guide the developer uses to create a consistent look and feel of the interface throughout the Web site or application. The guide includes page templates, fonts, color, and other design specifications.
